Dark Circles can be genetic, or acquired with ageing. Either way, they can be made to look better. The secret lies in understanding the underlying cause. If the dark circles are due to pigmented change in the skin, then naturally you must address the pigmentation. Sometimes the best method to address this issue is with makeup.

If it is due to a prominent bulge due to a well developed muscle as seen in younger patients, then a drop of Botox® might be the answer as this will relax the prominent muscle causing the bulge.
Often the answer lies in having combination treatments to achieve eye rejuvenation as see below in these two patients.

Excessive fat pads can be treated with surgery, but if you wish to avoid having surgery, then we can either try to reduce this medically or by using dermal fillers such as the Juvederm range namely Teosyal Global Action, Teosyal Redensity II, Teosyal Ultimate, Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Voluma or Restylane Perlane® to lift the area to mask the effects of the excessive fat pads under the eyes. Teosyal Redensity II is the only dermal filler to have a licence to be used for the tear trough region of your eyes.

If the skin is thinning then it may be more appropriate to use Fractional Nonablative 1540nm erbium:glass laser to stimulate skin rejuvenation under the eye, creating more youthful skin to the region.

BOTOX® is a Prescription Medicine containing 100 units of botulinum toxin type A for injection. It is used for the treatment of frown lines. It should be administered only by trained medical professionals. Talk to your specialist about the benefits/risks of this procedure in appearance medicine.
Cautions: People with defective neuro-muscular transmission disorders, infection at site of injection, glaucoma, pregnancy and lactation.
Possible side effects include headaches, pain, burning or redness at injection site, local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids, lack of feeling and nausea. If you have any side effects or concerns speak to your doctor.
You will need to pay for this medicine. Normal doctors visits apply. Note: The treatment lasts about four months and after this time further courses of treatment may be necessary. Speak to your doctor about your own situation.
