Juvederm® was originally manufactured by Corneal Laboratories in France. Allergan Inc. recently aquired the french company and inherented this special hyaluronic acid fillers. In addition to Juvederm®, Corneal Laboratories also manufacture Surgiderm® and Voluma®.

Dr Garsing Wong and Wen-Pei Margaret Chen were first introduced to the newer generation of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers when attending an inspiring talk by Docteur Maryna Taieb, a Parisian dermatologist, at the inaugural Asian IMCAS Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand, July 2007. When Dr Garsing Wong gave his talk on Non-Surgical Facial Shaping with Botox® and Phosphatidylcholine (Lipolysis) in Paris, September 2007, Margaret and Garsing arranged to spend time with Docteur Taieb who showed her blunt canula technique for high volume replacement with the smoother newer products. With experience, you can place the products virtually at any level of the skin to restore volume. Docteur Taieb's blunt canula technique has been further refined by Dr Garsing Wong and Wen-Pei Margaret Chen, as the technique reduces the likelyhood of unsightly bruises by gently pushing the tissues aside as you place the product.

Dr Garsing Wong and Wen-Pei Margaret Chen then had the opportunity to meet Dr Ahmet Tezel, Director of Research and Development Allergan Medical, in March 2008. Drs Wong and Chen were able to show how the unique viscosity of the highly crosslinked hyalurones in Juvederm and Voluma were well suited to be able to be placed at all levels in the skin safely to produce excellant results.

When Dr Garsing Wong and Wen-Pei Margaret Chen returned to Auckland, they initially brought with them Surgiderm® and Voluma® as it was unavailable in New Zealand. The products proved a great success with patients and Dr Wong has been very pleased to have Juvederm Ultra® and Juvederm Ultraplus® which preforms just as well as the Surgiderm®.

Allergan Inc. has been instrumental in allowing Dr Wong and Wen-Pei Margaret Chen to have extensive first hand experience with Juvederm Ultra® and Juvederm Ultraplus® prior to the official launch of the products in New Zealand.

Using the technique that Drs Garsing Wong and Wen-Pei Margaret Chen have developed together, difficult infraorbital volume loss can now be safely and reliably be fixed.

Juvederm Ultra® and Juvederm Ultraplus® are particularly well suited for static wrinkles and fine lines. The soft product flows very freely, allowing it to be placed both superficially and deeply to acheive very natural looking results.

The products can be used whereever volume is needed. Below shows the combination of using Botox with Juvederm in lower facial shaping to give the appearance that the face is more elongated and slimmer. The weight has not changed between the first photo and the followup photo at three months.

Most of the procedures are done with only topical anaesthetic or a dental block. For some patients who prefer stronger analgesia, we offer Penthrox inhalation analgesia, which you breath in during the procedure. Within 30 minutes of stopping the inhalation with Penthrox, you are feeling normal again, however as a precaution, you may not drive for the rest of the day so alternative transport or a driver is required should you choose this.

There is a small chance of bruising. Most patients are able to return to work immediately so long as they do not mind a little swelling which is generally gone by the next day.
