This is a good illustration of dynamic wrinkles that has been treated using Botox® and Restylane®, a dermal filler.

Prevention of new wrinkles is the most important step.  At the consultation, we will discuss with you how you can prevent and slow the onset of further wrinkles.

Treatment of wrinkles depends if they are dynamic lines (wrinkles that are made worst when you animate or express yourself such as frowning or laughing) or static lines (wrinkles that remain regardless of your expression)

What are Dynamic Lines?

Dynamic lines or wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to form facial expressions. During facial expressions such as smiling and frowning our muscles contract and cause our skin to wrinkle. For example, when we smile our eye wrinkles become prominent and when we frown the vertical lines between our eyebrows become noticeable. When we are young our skin springs back to its original position when we finish making the facial expression (at rest) but as we get older the dynamic wrinkles remain on the skin to form static wrinkles.

Dynamic Lines are best treated using Botox®, a safe purified protein that relaxes muscles that can cause wrinkles.  Treatment with Botox® is painless and safe, and the effect will last for three to four months.

What are Static Lines?

Static lines or wrinkles are the wrinkles and folds that are present at rest or when we are not forming facial expressions. They develop as we get older because natural substances such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid that provide the skin with structure and volume decrease with age. The loss of skin structure and volume means that the skin is less able to spring back to its initial position after facial expression, and as a result static wrinkle or fold will form.

Static Lines can be treated using a combination of Botox® and Dermal Fillers such as Restylane® or Juvederm® Ultra, Ultraplus and Voluma. I prefer the hyaluronic acid family of fillers as they can be used just about anywhere. The biggest advantage is that with a lunch-time procedure you can walk out with an instant result with only a small risk of bruising.

For more natural and permanent methods to treat your wrinkles, nothing beats prevention and making your own collagen. Sapphire will be able to advise you on good, reliable and safe skin care products that will rejuvenate your skin, restoring your natural beauty.

More active approaches to make your own collagen depends on the amount of down time you are willing to accept. The basic concept of building your own collagen depends on controlled stimulation of your skin to make your own collagen. The treatments range from using photodynamic therapy (used to removed non-melanoma skin cancers without surgery or treat aggressive acne), intense pulse light which only rejuvenates the top layer of skin, fractional erbium:glass laser which stimulates skin rejuvenation up to 1mm in depth.

Treating Wrinkles due to Folds in our skin

Wrinkles due to folds in our skin, tend to occur in the lower face.  To see if your wrinkles due to folds can be reduced nonsurgically, then do this test right now ...

Get a hand held mirror, and sit on the edge of your bed, note the areas that concern you, then lie down and look into the mirror.  If the result you see meets your expectation, then consult with Auckland Cosmetic Medicine Clinic Ltd - Sapphire Appearance Medicine Clinic, because it is likely that using non surgical face lift technique of placing safe absorbable sutures or stitches to suspend your skin will give the desired result (also known as threading).
