Sculptra
Dr Garsing Wong, international speaker and cosmetic physician, is one of the first doctors to use Sculptra®, Poly-L-lactic acid, a registered medicine in New Zealand to smooth out areas of depressed skin such as skin creases, wrinkles, folds, scars and improve the aging skin. It also assists in the restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss that can be seen in patients treated with anti-retroviral medication.
WHAT IS SCULPTRA®?
Sculptra is not a dermal filler like the popular hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma or Restylane, as it does not give you instant results. Instead you can expect subtle results which improve with time giving you a long lasting result. Sculptra stimulates your skin to make your own collagen, giving you a more natural looking result. A full treatment of Sculptra consist of an average of three treatments over a few months, giving you results that can last up to two years.
Sculptra is a facial injectable medicine made from Poly L Latic Acid which helps to replace lost collagen in your skin. It is ideal for areas of large volume lost which would require relatively large volumes of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, but with Sculptra, you can achieve good gradual restoration of large volume lost in a relative economical manner compared to using hyaluronic acids.

Before, 5 weeks after 2 vials of Sculptra and 9 months after a total of six vials of Sculptra. Note the improvement in the skin texture and the natural looking global improvement. Please note all photos are photographs of genuine patients of Dr Wong, the photographs are not altered or manipulated in any way. It is important to understand that the photos represent one persons experience and there is no guarantee that any other patient will experience similar results.
It can be used for panfacial volume restoration, and most patients will experience an improvement in the quality of their skin.

How does Sculptra work?
Sculptra is placed in the deep dermis, or deeper. This stimulates our skin to replace lost collagen. This reinforced collagen structure provides a foundation for gradually restoring your look of fullness of your shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds that has been depleted over time. The results after completing on average three sessions can last up to 2 years.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
You should not use Sculptra if you are allergic to any ingredient of the product or have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring. Sculptra should not be injected while you have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area and should not be injected into the red area of the lip or too close to your eyes.
Are there any side effects?
Like with any medicine that is administered by injections, you may have injection site discomfort, redness, bruising, bleeding, itching and swelling. Bruising is the most common side effect. Other side effects may include small lumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, some with delayed onset with or without inflammation or skin discoloration have also been reported. Most of these can be resolved without treatment.
What can you expect after being treated with Sculptra?
You will be invited to have complimentary Red Light Rejuvenation to reduce bruising and to enhance your skin after the procedure. It is essential that you can massage the area where Sculptra has been administered five times a day, for five minutes during the first five days.
